SUMMARY:Maintaining Scottish Churches - Galashiels
DESCRIPTION:Location: St Peter’s Episcopal Church\, Parsonage Road\, Galashiels\, TD1 3HS \n\n\n\nAre you involved in caring for and maintaining a place of worship in Scotland? \n\n\n\nCaring for a historic building can feel like a never-ending task\, but thankfully there are some simple steps you can take to keep your building in good condition and reduce the likelihood of large repair projects further down the line. \n\n\n\nIn this introductory one-day course\, we’ll explore how your historic faith building works and the practical steps you can take to look after it. \n\n\n\nYou’ll be able to put your new knowledge into action right away\, with a practical exercise looking at the host building inside and out to identify maintenance issues and areas of vulnerability. There will also be the opportunity to discuss your building with the course tutors and others attending. \n\n\n\nArmed with a new understanding of how traditional buildings were constructed\, how they work\, and how they decay\, you’ll leave with the skills and confidence you need to spot and tackle common problems that put your old building at risk. \n\n\n\nFor more information and to book your place please follow this link.

SUMMARY:The Work that Reconnects - a series of 5 workshops
DESCRIPTION:The Work That Reconnects is an inspiring\, interactive group process for anyone who longs to serve the healing of our world in a more powerful and effective way. \n\n\n\nOver a series of 5 Monday evening workshops participants will be guided through the Work’s spiral of practices: Gratitude\, Honouring Our Pain for the World\, Seeing with New Eyes/Ancient Eyes\, and Going Forth. \n\n\n\nWithin an atmosphere of safety and trust\, each workshop will offer group exercises\, poetry and singing to engage participants\, whilst encouraging conversation and sharing as we move through the stages of the spiral together. Periods of group silence will also be included. \n\n\n\nThese workshops are open to anyone currently involved in addressing the climate and ecological crises in any way and/or who wish to become more active. We aim to facilitate an honest sharing of hopes and fears and to support participants to sustain long term engagement and personal wellbeing. \n\n\n\nAs the sessions lead on from each other in a structured way\, to build connection and trust within the group participants will ideally attend all 5 sessions. \n\n\n\nLOCATION: the workshops will take place in the Cathedral’s Song School – which also houses Phoebe Anna Traquair’s stunning ‘song of creation’ murals. Directions will be sent to the participants in advance of the first workshop. \n\n\n\nDONATIONS: we’ve suggested a sliding scale donation. For those who can’t afford the minimum suggested donation\, please send an email to jb4change@gmail.com. We have subsidised places available for those who need them. \n\n\n\nBOOKING YOUR TICKET: Eventbrite has its limits! If you plan to attend all 5 workshops you only need to book once (on the first date). If you can attend most but not all of the workshops please email jb4change@gmail.com to register your interest. Hopefully there will be places available\, but we’ll need to prioritise participants who can attend all 5 workshops. Book your place here. \n\n\n\nFor more information about The Work That Reconnects see here. \n\n\n\nAbout the facilitators: \n\n\n\nJonathan Baxter is an artist\, peer-educator and curator. He runs the A+E programme at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral and delivers projects inspired by The Work That Reconnects. \n\n\n\nChris Booth is an experienced member of the network of Work That Reconnects facilitators and has run various courses and workshops inspired by this practice. He draws on his lifelong experience in the peace and environmental movements. \n\n\n\nJane Lewis is an experienced song leader and song writer. She has led singing within Protest In Harmony (Edinburgh’s radical street choir) for the last 20 years in addition to setting up singing for lung health groups. She is also an experienced mindfulness teacher. \n\n\n\nLesley Morrison is a retired GP whose climate work makes the connection between individual health and planetary health. \n\n\n\nMore information and registration can be found here.

SUMMARY:Fife Climate Festival
DESCRIPTION:Fife Climate Festival is a celebration of community climate action. It celebrates the amazing work happening in Fife to tackle the climate emergency and show what we can all do to make a difference. Thousands of people in communities all over Fife will take part in the festival. It runs between Saturday 21 September and Saturday 5 October 2024 when it will culminate in a big gathering called The Big Day Oot at Silverburn Park. \n\n\n\nAny groups can take part and host events\, from football clubs and scout packs to community councils and community gardeners. Activities could include cooking workshops\, film screenings\, walks\, cycle rides\, workshops\, talks\, garden tours and more. The festival closes with a mass gathering that brings everyone together to celebrate\, imagine what could come next.   \n\n\n\nThis festival will focus on hope for the future. It aims to imagine a world where climate action thrives and what that could mean for Fife. \n\n\n\nWe are keen to get as many groups as possible involved in hosting events. Climate Action Fife and Fife Climate Hub are inviting community groups to take part by organising events during the festival period. These could include activities that they have planned already or could be special events arranged specifically for the festival.  \n\n\n\nFife Climate Festival is presented by Climate Action Fife and delivered with support from Fife Climate Hub. It’s funded by the National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund and the Scottish Government.
