The Energy Footprint Tool (EFT) is the online software, developed for the SEC, to gather greenhouse gas emissions data from across the Province. This is an essential part of learning to monitor and reduce our carbon footprint as part of the Net Zero Action Plan.
The tool is simple, and will take about ten minutes to complete. In most cases, the vestry treasurer or another volunteer has the log in details to fill in the tool for their charge. All the information needed will be found in your charge’s utility bills.
The EFT is currently used to capture energy usage for church buildings and church halls only – not rectories. To find the answers to some FAQs please see below.
Inputting your charge’s data is crucial to measuring our carbon footprint and helping the SEC move towards Net Zero. A summary graphic of recent provincial data is below:

Progress reports and accompanying Energy Footprint Tool data are publicly available (approved by Standing Committee April 2026) and will be published below periodically.
Please note, Energy Footprint Tool data is published to inform and support action, not to single out or criticise individual churches. A higher emissions footprint often reflects the realities of larger, older, or more heavily used buildings rather than a lack of commitment to climate action.
By making this data visible, the Net Zero Team can identify where the greatest opportunities for emissions reduction exist and prioritise support, funding, and technical input accordingly. At the same time, the data highlights where churches are already making progress, helping to share good practice and demonstrate the impact of collective action across the Province.
