Journeying towards a net zero church

Case Study: Air source heat pump at St Drostan’s, Insch

In July 2020 St Drostan’s opened its new, sustainable church extension with hall space, office, meeting room, kitchen and toilets.

The extension has underfloor heating, and the heating and hot water are provided by air source heat pump.

We have found the heat pump to be a great way to heat this new space. It enables the building to be a great temperature. It is warm in all weathers and so allows many local groups to enjoy using the space.

The church itself is heated by infrared red heaters which are very effective at heating people. But we have found the air source heat pump, with under floor heating, to be a great way to heat the newer and better insulated part of the building.

We would happily recommend installing an air source heat pump.
