Today marks Earth Day – an annual global event focused on environmental protection and sustainability. The first Earth Day was held in 1970 in protest against pollution, and has grown into a movement of climate action involving activities like tree planting, environmental clean-ups, and climate education.
Earth Day 2026 | Theme, Activities, Events & Resources
The theme for Earth Day 2026 is Our Power, Our Planet. This theme acts as a reminder of the collective power of individuals working together in climate action. This year’s focus highlights the importance of renewable energy, education, and advocacy.

In our work towards reaching Net Zero carbon, the Scottish Episcopal Church is committed to moving towards renewable energy sources, as demonstrated by our growing list of case studies. We are also growing in our knowledge and understanding of the world God created and sustains, and using our voices to raise awareness of issues of climate injustice.

In whatever ways you might be marking Earth Day this year, the Net Zero Team would like to thank everyone’s dedication and enthusiasm to work with us on our journey to Net Zero. As individuals we can feel powerless; however, collectively and in community with the Holy Spirit, we can work together for lasting change.
