St Mary-on-the-Rock in Ellon recently received funds from the new Rectory Green Fund to install loft and under-floor insulation. This insulation work was the top recommendation from their recent Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and is a key part of their efforts to raise the rectory EPC to the Provincial standard of C.
As a result of match funding from the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney and the Provincial Rectory Green Fund, the building project was completed at the end of the Summer. The project included installing under-floor and roof insulation, along with loft maintenance and the placement of netting to prevent any sagging. These works will allow Rector Dennis Berk, of the joint charges of St Mary-on-the-Rock (Ellon) and St James-the-Less (Cruden Bay), to enjoy a better insulated home in the winter. Improving energy efficiency reduces the need for heating, which in turn lowers both bills and carbon use. Those involved in the project report being very pleased with the outcome.

Applications for the Rectory Green Fund are encouraged by charges considering sustainable improvements to rectory properties and are welcomed on a rolling basis. The applications are considered at regular meetings of the Buildings Grant Group. Charges are encouraged to get in touch with both their Diocesan Treasurers and Diocesan contacts from the Net Zero Team.
